Phoenix Contact PLCnext programming and open control
PLCnext Control is a controller that runs a conventional real-time PLC program next to higher-level code, on the same hardware. That lets a plant keep its familiar ladder, function-block and structured-text logic while adding data services, such as a gateway to a database or a cloud service. We program the real-time part in PLCnext Engineer and handle the connections to the rest of the plant.
| Item | Platforms / range | Standard | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Controller programming | PLCnext Control in PLCnext Engineer | IEC 61131-3 | 2–6 weeks per system |
| I/O and fieldbus | Axioline I/O, Profinet devices and drive interfaces | Profinet specification | Included in the programme |
| HMI | Phoenix Contact operator panels and web-based visualisation | ISA-101 principles | 1–4 weeks |
| Data links | Modbus, OPC UA and MQTT to SCADA, historian or cloud | IEC 62443 basics | 3–8 weeks with telemetry links |
| Software FAT | Logic and links tested against simulated signals with a signed record | Your ITP or ours | Per project schedule |
What is PLCnext Engineer, and is it free to download?
PLCnext Engineer is the engineering software for PLCnext controllers. It covers hardware configuration, the IEC 61131-3 languages, the Profinet network and the connection to visualisation. Phoenix Contact publishes the software and its licence conditions, so we check the current terms before the project starts.
For your plant, the practical point is who owns the project. We work on your installation of the software, set up the controller in your network plan and give you the project file at handover. If you have no engineering PC prepared, we can supply the initial set-up as part of the proposal.
What is the default IP address of a Phoenix Contact PLC?
The default address depends on the controller model and firmware, and the manufacturer prints it in the device documentation. We do not leave it at the default. During commissioning each controller receives a fixed address from your plant address plan, the subnet is documented, and any unused service is switched off.
Doing this at the start prevents the usual clash where two new controllers arrive with the same factory address. Our standard for this is described in the SCADA cybersecurity basics guide, which explains zones and access in plain terms.
How do we deliver a PLCnext project?
- Enquiry. You send the I/O list, the functional description and any existing code.
- Site data. We confirm the PLCnext model, firmware, Axioline modules and network layout.
- Design. A short functional design sets the program structure, interfaces and data points.
- Programming. We write the logic in PLCnext Engineer and configure the data links.
- Software test. The program runs against simulated signals, and each fault and link failure is recorded.
- Site commissioning. We assign addresses, verify every channel and test the data links under load.
- Documentation and support. You receive the project file, a backup, the network plan and the test record.
Where the controller feeds a supervisory system, the work continues under SCADA integration, and its telemetry side is covered on the RTU and telemetry page.
Where we deliver PLCnext work
Our company has worked in Saudi Arabia since 1995 and is approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. We have worked on projects for Marafiq in Jubail.
PLCnext suits plants that mix real-time control with data collection: water sites, energy monitoring, packaging lines and remote stations. We take projects in every region of Saudi Arabia, with emergency support remote the same day and on site within one working day in the Eastern Province.
Phoenix Contact partner questions
Who provides Phoenix Contact PLCnext programming in Saudi Arabia?
KSA Industrial Automation Company provides Phoenix Contact PLCnext programming in Saudi Arabia from its Dammam engineering office. We program PLCnext Control in PLCnext Engineer, configure Axioline I/O and Profinet devices, and commission the system on your site.
Where can I buy Phoenix Contact products in Saudi Arabia?
KSA Industrial Automation Company provides engineering rather than stock. Phoenix Contact products are bought through its sales channels and electrical distributors. We prepare the I/O list and a parts list for your buyers, then program, test and commission the equipment once it is delivered to site.
What is an HMI interface?
An HMI, or human-machine interface, is the screen through which operators see the process and give commands. It shows values, alarms and trends from the controller. We design the screens with the operators, keep colour for alarms only and test every control before the panel goes live.
What affects the cost of PLCnext programming?
Cost follows the I/O count, the number of Profinet devices, the amount of logic, the data links to SCADA or the cloud, the HMI scope and the testing required. Send the I/O list and the functional description, and the proposal prices each item separately.
How long does PLCnext programming take?
Most controller systems take two to six weeks of programming, and an HMI takes one to four weeks. Data links to SCADA or cloud services add time. The I/O count, the number of links and how quickly your team approves the design decide the position in the range.
What should I send to get a quotation?
Send the I/O list, the functional description and any existing program. Add the network layout and the SCADA or cloud systems that will receive data. We return a priced proposal that sets out the scope, the programme and the acceptance tests.
