Tank Farm Monitoring System in Saudi Arabia

Tank farm monitoring system in Saudi Arabia: level, temperature and inventory in one SCADA view. Built in Dammam. Aramco approved. Get a quote.

KSA Industrial Automation Company provides tank farm monitoring systems in Saudi Arabia that bring level, temperature, pressure, valve status and alarms from every tank into one SCADA view. The system calculates inventory, records every transfer and keeps working when a gauge or a communication link fails, so terminal and plant operators always know what is in each tank.

What you receive: a written proposal with the instrument interface list, network architecture, inventory and alarm scope, and schedule within one working day of receiving your tank list, P&IDs or functional description. Request a quotation

What is a tank farm monitoring system?

It is the instrumentation, controllers and SCADA that report the condition of bulk storage tanks. Each tank has level and temperature measurement, often with pressure, water-bottom or high-level switches. A controller gathers the readings, SCADA displays them, and the historian stores them so you can reconcile receipts and deliveries.

The system normally includes:

  • tank level, temperature and pressure signals from radar, servo or float-and-tape gauges;
  • inventory calculation: volume from level, with temperature correction where the product requires it;
  • valve and pump status and, where the scope includes it, remote operation of transfer valves;
  • high, high-high, low and rate-of-change alarms with clear priorities;
  • bund sump level and leak detection inputs; and
  • event logs showing who acknowledged what, and when.

We programme on Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider and ABB platforms and build with ABB, Schneider Electric and Siemens components.

How does tank level monitoring SCADA calculate inventory?

It converts the measured level into volume using the tank's strapping table, then corrects the volume for temperature if the product expands noticeably. The gauge supplies level and temperature, the PLC applies the table and the SCADA displays gross volume, and net volume where required. Totals per product and per site update continuously.

We load the strapping data under a controlled revision, so an updated calibration is a documented change rather than an edit. Transfers are detected from level movement and compared with flow meter totals where meters exist. A difference between the two raises an alarm for the operator to investigate. Custody-transfer measurement is a separate approved system; we integrate its outputs for display but do not replace it.

Can the system integrate our existing tank gauges and safety systems?

Yes. Most tank farms have gauges from more than one generation, and the monitoring layer is built to read them all. We list each instrument, its protocol and its address, then connect them through the controller or a protocol gateway. Nothing in the field needs replacing unless it has failed or lacks a usable output.

Independent overfill protection and other safety functions stay independent. We bring their status and alarms into the monitoring screens so operators see them beside the process data, but the monitoring system never sits in the safety path. IEC 61511 shapes how we separate the two. The wider SCADA integration scope covers the platform choices behind this.

How is a tank farm monitoring project delivered?

  1. Enquiry. You send the tank list, instrument schedule, P&IDs or a functional description.
  2. Site survey. We record gauges, protocols, cable routes, network access and the existing SCADA.
  3. Design. We issue the architecture, tag list, alarm list and screen layout for approval.
  4. Build. We programme the controllers and configure SCADA, inventory and reports.
  5. Factory acceptance test. We test against simulated gauges, including bad-quality signals and communication failures.
  6. Site acceptance. We complete loop checks tank by tank and compare displayed levels with local readings. See loop checking and instrumentation.
  7. Documentation. You receive source code, backups, loop folders and network drawings.
  8. Support. We remain available for new tanks, gauge replacement and fault call-outs.

Where tank monitoring applies

KSA Industrial Automation Company has worked in Saudi Arabia since 1995 and is approved by Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu. We have worked on projects for all three, with management systems certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Storage of crude, refined products, chemicals, feedstock, fuel and process water all share the same needs: accurate level, reliable alarms and a record of every movement. The hazardous-area ratings of field instruments follow the plant's area classification and are specified by the instrument supplier; our scope is the control and monitoring layer. We are based in Al Shati District, Dammam, close to the Eastern Province terminals, and we take projects in all regions of Saudi Arabia. See also our work for oil and gas clients.

Common questions before you request a quotation

Who provides a tank farm monitoring system in Saudi Arabia?

KSA Industrial Automation Company provides controller programming, SCADA and inventory reports for storage terminals and plants. We have worked on projects for Saudi Aramco, SABIC and the Royal Commission. Our engineers commission the system tank by tank and support it afterwards.

What affects the cost of tank farm monitoring?

The main factors are the number of tanks, gauge types and protocols, whether existing instruments are reused, the SCADA platform, the inventory and report requirements, communication links to remote tanks, and the test regime. Your tank list and instrument schedule let us price these against your specification.

How long does tank monitoring take to implement?

A small group of tanks can be programmed in a few weeks. Larger farms with mixed gauges need more time for the instrument interface and loop checks. Access to the site, permits for work near live tanks and design approval influence the schedule more than software effort does.

Can you add monitoring to tanks that are in service?

Yes. We start with read-only connections to gauges that already have outputs, so the tank stays in service. New wiring and instrument work is planned around permits and shutdown windows, and each tank is verified before its data is trusted on the overview screen.

What happens to the data if a gauge or link fails?

The signal is flagged as bad quality on the screen, the last good value is retained and an alarm is raised. Controllers buffer readings during a communication outage and send them when the link returns, so inventory history keeps its continuity.

What should I send to get a quotation?

Send the tank list with product and capacity, the instrument schedule or gauge makes, P&IDs or a functional description, and the SCADA you use now. Photos of the gauge heads help on existing farms. Your proposal then sets out scope, standards, duration and price.
